2005 Sewing Projects

2005 was a pretty quiet year for me, sewing-wise. I was getting more involved with my custom window treatment business, which meant I had less time to sew for myself. Still, I managed to get a few projects done.

Tie Handle Purse

The more I use Wild Things, the better I like it!! This purse took less than an hour to make, including drafting, printing, taping, cutting and sewing! I used some scrap upholstery fabric for the outside, and solid quilting cotton for the lining.

Diana's Graduation Dress -- 2005 Montgomery County Fair Blue Ribbon and Champion Rosette!

Diana will be graduating from the 8th grade and will be leaving the only school she has ever attended. She asked me to make her a Cheongsam out of silk brocade (hey, the kid has taste!). Thanks to PatternMaster Celebrations, the pattern was no problem!

The full story is right here.

July 2005

It's been quite a dry spell for personal sewing! I just haven't gotten the impetus to turn out garments -- or much of anything, for that matter. Sewing for work is occupying enough of my time that the last thing I want to do with my free time is sit at a sewing machine!

However, I have finally started doing projects again, starting with a pair of pants for my daughter Diana.

More sewing for Diana... this time it's a pair of "Island Pants". These pants only have a crotch seam; they are worn wrapped around the body. The fabric is a twilled microfiber that is very lightweight and drapey -- perfect for summer.

Yet more pants for Diana... I think I've sewn enough for her for a while!! -- 2005 Montgomery County Fair Blue Ribbon!

Finally it's my turn!! I made myself a knock-off of a trumpet-flared skirt. -- 2005 Montgomery County Fair Third Place!

A purse with a twist

I saw pictures of this purse in a book of purse-making projects and was intrigued enough to attempt to make one. The body of the purse is an actual hardcover book (yes, the pages are cut out and discarded). It looks like an ordinary book. But set it upright and open it up and you have a clever, funky purse. Can't wait for a party to use it!

Inspiration from a Catalog

My husband found this dress in a Coldwater Creek catalog and showed it to me, saying he liked the colors and the style and thought I should order it. Hmm; I thought... eighty dollars for a simple pull-on sheath. A bit of web sleuthing tracked down the fabric (a paisley stretch velvet), and soon I had a very nice new dress. Front view, Back view
