Anniversary Quilt

Completed February 8, 2003

I started this quilt about a year ago but never managed to really get it going. But I brought the components to the Sewing Retreat in January and got the entire top pieced; from there it was easier to keep it going and finish it. I will give it to my husband Bob on our anniversary this Valentine's Day.

Here's the front of the quilt:

I didn't use a commercial pattern; I came up with a simple pieced heart block.

The quilting was done on the Designer 1. I used a single wavy line on the sashing strips and did free-motion embroidery on the border to repeat the motif all the way around the quilt. I used a Robinson-Anton 40wt polyester machine embroidery thread and a black prewound bobbin.

In the four corners, I embroidered a block with significant dates from our relationship: the date we met, our first kiss, engagement and wedding. These were digitized with Origins.

The backing is a fabric called "The Adventures of Nina". I used printable fabric to create the label.

The binding was machine stitched to the front and hand-stitched down in the back. I used a medium-weight cotton batting.

This quilt will end up on the couch in his office at home, where he likes to relax and occasionally take naps.
