Brown Twill Pants

Completed January 14, 2003

One of the things I had yet to tackle with PatternMaster Boutique was pants. I have made pants for my son and daughter, but never for myself. Now I was determined to tackle the project and get a good fit.

I made these pants during my first Sewing Retreat. (If they look a little snug, it's probably because I gained weight on the fabulous food we were served during the retreat!)

Front view:

The fabric is a brushed cotton twill; very soft and comfy.

I'm very pleased with the fit overall. I think once I drop the extra pounds I gained over the weekend the fit will be even better!

At the retreat I was lucky to sit next to Julie Bowerset, a fellow member of the DC area PMB users group. She is an advocate of piping everything, and encouraged me to try it. So I took some of the red Qiana I purchased at Clearbrook Woolens and made piping for the pockets of the pants. I really like the results!

The piping filling was "mousetail", which is smaller than "rattail"! Applying it was a breeze with my piping foot. I can see doing a lot more piping in the future. Thanks for the tip, Julie!

I had cut these pants out at home before going on the retreat, and when I started assembling them I realized I had forgotten to cut out a fly shield and didn't have any scraps with me to make one. So I decided to get a little daring! I figured that no one would see it, and it would be a little "secret feature" -- I used the red Qiana! I just interfaced it for a bit more body.

Now you all know my little secret! I think I will do this on future pants -- it's such a fun little touch!
