Costumes for Diana's Class Play

Completed April 3, 2003

The play was called "Don't Count your Chickens Before They Cry Wolf." It is a compilation of Aesop's Fables. I volunteered to make some of the costumes and ended up making costumes for the tortoise, two crabs, the ant, the milkmaid and two daughters. It was a lot of fun and the first time I've worked with upholstery foam in costuming!

The crabs were the most fun to do.

I just with these costumes were seen more than 30 seconds!! It was a very, very short scene!!

The other foam work was for the tortoise costume. Here is the front:

And here is the back:

All the detail work was done with spray paint, and straps were sewn on with my Designer 1. I was amazed that the foam got beneath the presser foot and the machine didn't even hiccup.

I will admit I had the most fun making the milkmaid costume, since it was for my daughter Diana.

The skirt was a simple elastic waist pull-on with a serged bottom edge. The shirt was a peasant blouse made from a Simplicity pattern and the vest was drafted with Child's Play. Now Diana wants a real peasant blouse.
