J. Peterman Knockoff Blouse

May 2002

In the J. Peterman catalog was a wonderfully-styled summer blouse. However, they didn't have it in my size and I didn't care for the color, so I figured I could copy the style with Pattern Master. Indeed I could... it is called a Wing Shawl Collar. I dressed it up a bit by using some silk dupioni I bought at Mary Jo's in Gastonia last year, and added some embroidery to the collar from an OESD lace pack.

Red Silk Blouse, front view

Here is the front of the blouse. There are only three buttons because I intend the shirt to be tucked. If I find it needs it, I will put a "reverse button" on the inside of the placket to hold the sides together. (By reverse button, I mean that the button is attached to the underside of the top placket, and the buttonhole is in the bottom placket, so it's buttoned inside-out. The advantage of this is that the bottom button doesn't show.)

Back of the blouse

Here you can see the back darts and the shoulder darts. I'm hoping that they will be a little less obvious when the blouse is washed and ironed.

Close-up of blouse collar

Close-up of the embroidery. I used a one-color lace rose motif from OESD and mirrored it for the opposite lapel. I embroidered the motif before cutting out the lapel panel. It puckered a bit more than I would have liked, but I can live with it!

The buttons are black resin roses, to go with the embroidery motif.
