Trumpet Flare Skirt
This is my "interpretation" of a flared skirt that was made by another member of my local PatternMaster Boutique Users Group. She used a pattern from Dawn Anderson called the "Hollywood Skirt". I decided to try and replicate it with PatternMaster.
I used their new package, Celebrations, because it gives more flare controls than Boutique does.
The interesting feature of this skirt is that the flare in front is less than the flare in back. So I actually drafted two skirts with different flares, and merged them together into one pattern to print out.
Front view:

The fabric is a polyester print I've had in my stash for a while.
Back view:

One modification I made to this pattern is that the zipper is not in the center back. The center back and center front are both cut on the fold. The zipper is in the right side back seam... in other words, it's in the seam that joins the center back and side back piece, curved over the right "butt cheek". I first saw this application in a skirt made by another member of my local PMB Users Group and have wanted to try it ever since. I really like how it looks!
The scarf was a definite afterthought; I had just finished hemming the skirt about ten minutes before I had to leave for a luncheon, and when I pulled the skirt on it just looked like it was missing something. So I ripped two widths of fabric from what was left, joined one short edge with the serger, and did a quick 3-thread rolled edge all the way around. I was out the door in time for lunch!
Update!
This skirt was awarded a WHITE RIBBON (third place) in the Adult Everyday Outfit -- Skirts category at the 2005 Montgomery County (MD) Fair!
