Mock Twinset

Completed October 16, 2002

This was an incredibly easy project to make. My thanks to Karen Campbell at FittingTips for the great instructions in her newsletter!

The great thing about this project was that it was constructed entirely with the serger.

The basic pattern was drafted with PatternMaster Boutique.

Here is the front view:

It looks like a cardigan over a tank top. But the inset top is attached to the cardigan at the shoulders, armhole and side seams!

Yes, the sleeves look too short. I drafted 3/4 sleeves and for some reason they just look like poorly fitting long sleeves. Luckily this is a "test" of this style, made with 50-cent-per-yard jersey from Fabric Mart (what a find!). So for two bucks and a few hours work I have something I could wear in public if I wanted to.

Here's the back view:

Nothing really special about this, but it does fit nicely.

Here's a detail of the top:

The cardigan edge, inset edge and all the hems were done with a narrow cover stitch on the Huskylock 936. All the seams were done with a narrow 3-thread overlock. From cutting out to completion, this project took just under three hours!

I'm going to make more of these, but will change the ease level; this is a bit too loose. I'm also going to narrow the sleeves and either make them shorter or longer. This length isn't good!
