The Virtual Tour Continues: Third Floor

The third floor was obviously built along different lines than the rest of the house. There is no fancy door trim, and the doors themselves are simple board-and-batten affairs rather than thick panel doors. The hardware is plain thumb-latches. The closets are not cedar (the only ones in the house that aren't).

This was where the servants lived.

There is one large bedroom, with its own full bath and a small closet.

This floor also houses the kids' computer room. We're not sure what this tiny room was, but it's the perfect size for playing on the computer, and it's got a closet for storing toys. Next to the room is a large closet where they are supposed to keep their toys and games tidy on shelves. Hah.

From the third floor, you can take the steep, twisty back stairs down to the main level. These were the "service stairs" by which the staff got from their level down to the kitchen. It leads to the hallway just inside the back door, so it was possible for the staff to get from their living quarters to their work unseen by the house's other residents.

The stairway also leads past the door to the master bedroom closet.
